Learn how to operate a Pop Rivet Gun

I’m not expert in DIY but I do have a passion and curiosity in DIY.

Recently I replaced the metal grill lock in my house. I notice the old lock was not secured using screws and was secured by some sort of rivet (I only know it’s called a rivet today).

I showed the picture of the rivet to my neighborhood hardware guy and the uncle told me the rivets were secured using a device called a pop rivet gun. He said it the device only cost RM30 and is very easy to use. The rivets used (look like screws) are called pop rivets.

Basically pop rivets are used in place of standard screws for aluminium, metal and glass material that is hollow. This is because these hollow material do not have ridges for screws to screw in. The pop rivet is used for these kinds of cases.

After the bike sharing craze has died down, now comes eScooter sharing craze. These vehicle sharing systems want to solve the transportation last mile problem, an area where it can be inefficient to call a Grab taxi.

Beam eScooters are currently only available in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Beam was started by an ex-exec from bicycle sharing company Ofo.

Recently there have Beam came out with insurance protection in the event a rider gets injured on their rides. Article is here. The medical coverage is up to $50,000 (I presume is in Singapore dollars)

Up to 50,000 for permanant disability/accidental death
Up to 2,000 for medical expenses
Up to1,000 for fractured bones
Up to 1,000 for losses and damages due to assault

Beam also pays freelancers to recharge and fit back the Beam scooters daily, currently what I understand is there are no more openings for this job.

Only available in downtown Kuala Lumpur

Beam also isn't the only eScooter sharing app in Malaysia anymore, there's Neuron Mobility which is  only based in Cyberjaya and some smaller companies doing solely in universities (eg Uniten's Unicycle).

5G coming to Cyberjaya

In the news, Cyberjaya is going to be trial location for mobile 5G Testing. Maxis the biggest mobile operator in Malaysia is working together with Huawei on this.

Cyberjaya is a good candidate for this because there are a lot of companies doing trials on smart cities frameworks in Cyberjaya. These smart cities stuff uses a lot of IoT devices that connects to the internet. Secondly MCMC the governing body for Internet related stuff in Malaysia is also conveniently located at Cyberjaya.

5G is 10x faster (Yes, it is really really fast)

The future I predict with 5G
- Mobile plans are going for unlimited.
That's the only way to go , there is no point of adding more bandwith with a cap on the total bandwidth.
- All things will moved into fully mobile
Everyone and I mean everybody , your parents, children , foreign workers all will be using mobile
- Huawei is further going into world domination
There is no second company that can rival Huawei in this area, they have long invested in this area ahead of their rival
- People will demand instant access
If your apps is slow, people will leave it as used tissue paper. There is just no room for slowness anymore.
- Everything will be connected to the internet
This give rise to all the wireless devices which can connect to the internet. The rise of IoT (Internet of Things), your fridge, your door bell will have seamless access to the internet.
