Xiang Cuisine at Serdang Perdana 香菜馆

Today’s food blog entry is about a place a bit out of Cyberjaya. It’s at Serdang/Seri Kembangan area, around 30mins drive from Cyberjaya.

Classy Decor

The restaurant visited is called Xiang Cuisine. Xiang cuisine 湘菜 refers to food from Hunan region, it’s located in central China. It is said that Hunan cuisine is one of the top culinary cuisine besides GuangDong food in China. This place is hard to miss, it’s directly opposite South City Plaza Shopping Center. The outside of the restaurant is decorated rows of bright red chinese lanterns.

Upon entering I was greeted by the friendly owner who looked at me as asked if I was a China mainland citizen which I replied I was not. I was also wondering why she asked this strange  question. I later found out that this question was used to determine what dish to recommend, for local Malaysians she will recommend the less spicy and less oily food.

The owner recommended salted vegetable fish and signature black fungus cold dish. There was quite a wait as there were many customers that night. Food came and the verdict was positive, the sourness and the spiciness of the food really whets the appetite. 1 bowl of rice was not enough also.

Sour Vegetable Fish
Hints of Sze Chuan Peppercorns

The sour vegetables and fish really hit the right sourness and spiciness notes. Mixing the sauce with the rice is really match made in heaven. My only complain was it was a bit oily.

Marinade Black Ear Fungus

The black fungus dish shines with hints of black vinegar taste.

Barley Tea 麥茶
For drinks I ordered barley tea, it's a Japanese version of Mugicha. There tea has hints of roasted barley taste.

I saw some people ordering the Ying Yang hotpot. Their hot pot is very unique, while it has got clear broth and the spicy broth, the soup is separated into 9 sections. What I understand is each sections can be used to cook different items.

After picking up the bill I did some small talk with the owner, apparently this place has been opened 6 months only and owner mentioned that the business was good as this area has a lot of students from China. I notice that also, maybe 50% of their customers at the restaurant that day were from China mainland based on the way their mandarin accent.

The meal prices are not hawker center prices but for the prices you pay you get maximum value. The price is absolutely worth it, I could barely finish the pickled vegetable fish.

I think this place opens until 11:00PM at night. I left the place around that time but there were still other customers eating.

LCS Sky House Noodles at Dengkil

It’s hard to get hearty good traditional chinese hawker noodles in Cyberjaya.
I found this place while doing exploration of Dengkil while looking for hand made Pau s (another story).

This unassuming place called LCS SkyHouse is just on the way on Jalan Dengkil, you can easily miss the turning during your 1st visit. However, once you know the place is quite easy to find, it’s at a corner shop sharing with another indian stall.

I usually go there for their curry noodles. It’s not the best there is like the ones in Pudu, no cockles, no long beans, no brinjals but I found the soup quite flavorful. They put real curry leaves inside. Besides curry noodles, this place sells other stuff like won ton noodles, pan mee (hand pulled) noodles. The noodles portions here come in small and big where the big one is more suitable if you want to do brunch.

The owner is quite cheeky but friendly, service is fast. This place is probably just 10 mins drive away from Cyberjaya. You should be able to have a good meal in 1 hour.

It can be quite packed during lunch hours where people working in Cyberjaya (Dell,DellEMC,HP), on construction workers (Duke3) will also go there fore lunch.

Note : It's not open on Saturdays.

Cyberjaya House/Condo Cleaning Services - weekends only

- Available on Saturday afternoon and Sunday
- Only servicing Cyberjaya area
- Doing part time
- 2 person team
- Speak Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia

I’ve use their services before on numerous occasions. This is a 2 person cleaning team from Indonesia 🇮🇩

They are not pro cleaning services company, so prices quoted is reasonable. You need to negotiate with them. They are very detail oriented and do get the job done. If there was any issues it is they do not have cleaning equipment like vacuum cleaner and stuff. It is best owner to provide.

Having said that, the only problem is they only work in the weekends when they are off, so weekdays is a no go for them.

So far the cleaners have covered Summerglades, Shaftsbury Square, D'Pulze Residences.

Note : I am not getting any commission out of this, just helping out the cleaners as their day jobs do not pay enough.

I started off with a test account of RM400, got some very small gains but it dipped back due to foreign exchange. Few days later goes back into the black RM401. Anyway, this is not meant to say this is a quick trading system, it is suppose to be long term as the rebalancing and repurchase are all done by robot software, so it's not required to keep checking the total portfolio amount every single day to maintain sanity.

Below is my account after a few days

Updates 19/3 :

I've since topped up until RM 3,900 into my Stashaway Account. There's still a big forex loss of there even though there a small investment gain already.

Got to wait for good news like that for it to profit. The investment will probably turn a profit if Ringgit strengthens.

Updates 30/3 :

I bought a free management fee coupon for RM1 for 6 months using BoostPay wallet.
I further topped up more into the account until 8K. The portfolio starting to see some positive results already.

I've also restructured my portfolio into 3 funds. Conservative, balance and aggressive with the latter having the highest risk. The US stock market and strengthening of Ringgit helped bring positive results to my portfolio.

Cyberjaya Saturday Farmer's Market

Morning markets define the vibrancy of townships. Cyberjaya Community, Cyberview and Majlis Perbandaran Sepang came together and organized weekly farmers market on 15 Sept 2018.

The farmers market location is inside the MAGIC (Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre) building's outdoor carpark called Cyberview Solar Farm Carpark. It's named as such as the structures nearby houses energy producing solar panels. Just drive to the MAGIC building and tell the guard that you are going to farmer's market, then turn left.

As this event is in Cyberjaya, it differentiates itself from other Farmer's market by accepting digital wallet payments via Boost e wallet. The guys at eWallet company Boost were also there to sign up vendors as merchants.

Having been to many farmer's market around the world, I was kind of disappointed by the offerings at the Cyberjaya farmer's market. There were probably only 20 stores around, most of which were not selling fresh product but instead more about promoting their wares.

Having said that, I'm also pleasantly excited to see technology and innovation being infused into the products and produces.

This vendor does fresh seafood delivery to doorstep via Whatsapp.

This Teh Ais store I can't tell sedap or not but confirm is too sweet for my tastebuds. Their teh ais (ice coffee) is topped with grass jelly (cincau). RM 3 per cup.

This vendor selling all kinds of colorful pasta. The unique part is the pasta gets its colors from the vegetables infused into the pasta. No more forcing people to take the vegetables anymore.

This vendor was selling preloved shoes and clothing.

This vendor was selling hydrophonics system to grow vegetables.

This entire experience, it is one small step for Cyberjaya one big step for the Cyberjaya community as a whole. I hope that the farmer's market activity would continue to be done weekly. By then, hopefully more vendors and people will come and make the place more vibrant again.

Sup Kambing at Nasi Kandar Pelita Cyberjaya

Nasi Kandar Pelita is a well known household name of Malay muslim restaurants in Malaysia. One of their dishes which I look forward to during my every visit is the lamb stew (sup kambing).  It is prepared with goat meat, tomato, celery, spring onion, ginger, candlenut and lime leaf, its broth is yellowish in color.

This dish best paired with white loaf bread, they do serve it with bread loaf but need to order it.
This is a dish that will really warms the soul.

The location of this place is at Glomac Cyberjaya area somewhere near the main Cyberjaya crossroads.

Location :
Cyberjaya No. C-0-1 & C-0-2, Blok C, Jalan GC1, Jalan Teknokrat 3, Glomac Cyberjaya, Cyber 12, 63000

SRJKC Union Chinese Medium National School in Cyberjaya

Not many people know that there is a Chinese primary school in Cyberjaya. The location of it is near MCT’s LakeFront project. It’s at one of the edge of Cyberjaya area.

Chinese primary schools are basically schools where mandarin is taught and spoken as a medium while still following the national school curriculum.

In Malaysia, the setup of such mandarin medium schools very controlled as the government still encourages students to attend the national medium schools. For Cyberjaya’s case, this Chinese primary school “license to open” was actually transferred from Ulu Sepetang, Taiping. The original school from Ulu Sepetang, Perak also had the same name. It closed down and subsequently transferred to Cyberjaya because of dwindling students and availability of teachers in the Ulu Sepetang area.

I drove around and visited the school just for the sake of getting to know Cyberjaya. The school compound is quite small but looks fresh as the building is very new.

Since China is poised to overtake the United States in economic power, these schools will be in more demand with limited supplies around.

Properties around this place should fare well and make more people want to stay in Cyberjaya.

New grocer in town - StarGrocer at CyberSquare

There's a new grocer just in town. It's called StarGrocer and is located at CyberSquare. It's just a few doors away from the Pakistani restaurant Al Mehran.

Based on my Google, this is the second branch for this company, their 1st branch is located at Desa Pandan.

The place is moderately stocked, the fruits and vegetables are quite limited but their dry goods are quite well stocked.

I still prefer RedTick supermarket as there's dedicated customer parking and the items there are more varied.

However StarGrocer add vibrancy to Cyberjaya and as the population around central Cyberjaya should be able to support both of these businesses.
